Applique

So, I've been trying to figure out something that I could do for my son....so far all of my sewing and bowmaking efforts have been concentrated on the girly side of things.  Having three girls, you can see why!  But I really wanted to make something special for him as well.  Sooooo, I decided to try a little bit of applique.  This really scared me at first!  I had practiced a few weeks ago, trying to figure it out on my own.  Let me tell you, it was a disaster!!  So I got smart today and looked for a free tutorial!!  I found an excellent one here.  I honestly can't remember what blog I got this link from, but it was wonderful and I am so thankful to the person who posted it!

I found the applique here if you wanna check it out yourself.  I printed it off, followed the instructions from the tutorial and it was a success.  Sooo easy and quick - it literally took me less than 30 minutes from start to finish.  I think that is fabulous for a first time project - most take me several hours the first time I try something!!

Happy Halloween

This is the beginning of a new era in blog posting!  So far, this blog has been totally about my kiddos and what goes on in their lives.  Don't get me wrong, it will certainly still include them!!  But it will also be about my new adventures in sewing and bowmaking.  I am so excited to discover this gift that God has placed within me and I hope that you will enjoy the journey along with me.

I have had several projects already (which I will show later), but I want to share a little of the Halloween costume I made for Giana first.  It started out with a ladybug costume idea and blossomed into something a little different, but adorable nonetheless.  I decided I wanted to try my hand at a little tutu-making.  I have seen them all over the web and in boutiques but had never tried to make one myself.  So I went to Hobby Lobby, got some red and black tulle and put it together at 2 in the morning the day of trick or treating.  It turned out so adorable and the pictures don't even do it justice (not to toot my own horn-well, maybe a little).

Having decided on the tutu in lieu of the traditional ladybug, I had to figure out a headpiece.  I settled on a little ladybug clip instead of the antennae. I just thought it would be less trouble on an infant and just as cute. I got an idea of a clip when I saw a pic here.  Although I didn't use this particular tutorial, the picture helped me to make my own.   I made the it out of the cutest little red w/ black dots grosgrain I got from Hobby Lobby and placed it on some green grosgrain cut in the shape of a leaf.  I added a crystal to symbolize a dewdrop and then attached to a clip.  Once I finished this I attached it to a black headband, but decided that it didn't quite look finished. I wasn't sure what to do but then I thought about the extra tulle I had leftover from the tutu.  So I cut a few pieces of it and added it below the clip.  It was just the touch needed to bring it all together.  Here is a pic of the finished ladybug clip:

I had so much making this costume for Giana!  It is something she can keep forever and she will always know that mama made it for her!  I look forward to making many more heirlooms for my Four Lil Monkeys!!

P.S. Had to include a pic of all the costumes and, of course, you might wanna see Giana actually wearing the tutu so here ya go:

P.S.S. Ignore that pup in the background, lol:  when ya gotta go, ya gotta go!! hahahaha!!
